The Road to Advocacy

Okay, here I go again. I'm back into the swing of things furthering my knowledge as I learn about ways to become a better advocate for change. In my daily on the job duties I encounter many people and these people are children, parents, staff, owners, and directors for example. I often times have to listen to their frustrations and concerns. With this in mind, I really wanted to enroll in a course that would help me to be a better advocate for the children, families, and the providers that I serve. So my hope for this class is that I will gain new knowledge and insight that will help me to better advocate for the individuals that I serve. So here I go wish me luck.

  1. Priscilla,
It is refreshing to know that there are others out there with the same hopes and desires for children and families. Have you experienced any specific situations that stand out in which you would have liked to have been able to handle better? Or have had more advocacy skills to help a family in another way?

  2. Priscilla,

I am looking forward to this course and learning more about the specifics in relation to advocacy. Over the last couple years in pursuing other degrees prior to this one I have learned of some issues related to early childhood that I would like to research more and advocate to improve. I hope this course can give me better direction on how to advocate effectively.

  4. I think we can all agree that the work we do as advocates and educators is one of the hardest and most rewarding careers ever. I look forward to reading your blog and enjoying this educational journey with you.

  5. Priscilla,
I believe you stated my beliefs perfectly in stating that advocacy often can be merely about paying it forward. However, there are many times that one must be the first to take that initiative to get the ball rolling so to say. I truly believe that many parents and children often just need to have one person that believes in them and can support them so that they may take their own steps forward in improving their situations. My hope is that this is what I am doing in my role as an early childhood professional.

  6. Priscilla,

In response to your post on Personal Advocacy Reflection, I love how you concluded your post. I believe if we all can 'lend a helping hand' we can make a difference in this profession. Even if it is in the life of just one child, we've succeeded but I think we could impact the lives of several children and their families and leave a lasting legacy.
